Wasteful Babel

On Saturday he was our hero.

Last night, he squandered 3 glorious chances to bury OM.
  1. He spun and blazed over the bar before OM's goal.
  2. The save from Mandanda (pic)
  3. When clear, he scuffed his shot and hit the woodwork later on.
He is not consistent, tend to smash every shot instead of a placement. Sometimes power is not everything. He has to learn fast, he's in 2nd season already. Now, he's got Riera as direct competitor for the left wing spot. No 2 for example, he could have dink, left Mandanda sprawling and just nod in from a few yards out..... and yet he just whacked it, only for Mandanda to save it albeit luckily.

Admittedly, Liverpool were below their standard last night. Had it not for Niang's profligacy in front of goal, Liverpool must be walking back to Anfield with their tails wagging in between their legs. The unbeaten run was prolonged only by the skin of their teeth.

For the entire 2nd half, the team was pinned back, passes went astray and put themselves under severe pressure unnecessarily. Luckily, the defense time and again were solid and Reina was awesome.
Masch was great but only sporadically while Lucas was neither there nor here.

Torres was eerily quiet, his lay off did make him rusty. His moves now are easily read by opposing defenders making him sometimes look ordinary.

There you are, improve we must if the Reds are to be considered as genuine title contenders.

You're quite harsh toward Babel. Wasn't that he's run to the goalmouth resulted in the penalty, thus coverted TWICE by Gerrard? For every 5 shots taken, if a player managed to score 1... it's still consider a good game. After all, you're playing with another human opposition who can psyco your movement and decision making by doing all sorts of tricks i.e tackling, pushing, shouting etc etc. So Babel missed. Kuyt missed too. hey... Gerrard also maaa. Just because Gerrard scored 2 goals, so he is not crucified for all his 20 more errors?
Go figure.

Kuyt is not known for his scoring prowess, as tenacious as he is, i'd be glad to swap him with some other chap. High workrate, no goals to show for it.
It can likened to this, kalau kat opis, cakap banyak mcm terer tp kerja tak reti buat, kalau buat pun mcm taik, no quality. Sure you have experience this, didn't u?

I crucified babel for his missed chances in OM game, too glaring, same like Niang for OM. Those mistakes can cost Liverpool that match, we're lucky to hold out but luck will finally run out.
Think if we had lost the match, many will join the chorus to slam him too. I give credits when due( see my post after MU game) and I slam if they deserve it.

When did SG miss 20 chances so to speak? if he was below standard in any game, i'd critic him anyway. His goalscoring record from MIDFIELD is second only to Lampard's. Babel is a striker, he must share the goalscoring responsibilities. Kuyt is a gone case (it's no secret that Rafa loves him for his hound dog style not his goalscoring abilities), Keane tried too hard for now and Torres has not scored since Sunderland.
We're too dependant on SG and Torres for goals last term, that proved our undoing. If that's the case again this season, we can kiss goodbye to title dream.
